At the Jan 19 Rotary Luncheon at Purkey's Pink Apple, President Ann Way announced that the Tunkhannock Rotary Club was selected as 1 of 13 Rotary Clubs to be awarded the international 2016 Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation Rotary Water Safety Advocacy Awards. Over 300 Rotary Clubs participate in this program.

The club has participated in this program to teach children about water safety by buying the books, Josh the Baby Otter, and giving them to H.A.N.D.S. of Wyo Cty for distribution to children during their spring Family Fun Fair for children entering kindergarten. The Rotary Club is one of the resource tables at this event. A Rotarian gives each child a book and asks each parent to take the water safety pledge with their child. In addition, parents can sign up to take CPR/First Aide classes and they are given information on swimming classes for their children at the local high school.

President Ann then shared the Award Certificate and the Award with Rotarian Terry Furman, who is also a Parents as Teachers Educator & National Trainer at H.A.N.D.S. and has overseen this program at H.A.N.D.S.
